What technology does PicSeal use to encrypt images?
PicSeal is a unique image encryption system combining multi-key combinations, hidden metadata, and condition-based technologies such as time, location, and device restrictions.
What is MetaSeal?
MetaSeal can be considered a digital seal (stamp). During encryption, a seal unique to your style is embedded inside the encrypted image. It also acts as a key.
There are two types of encryption, what are they?
1) Personal type is for protecting personal images (documents converted to image).
2) Shared type is used when delivering images only to specific users or groups. The UI clearly separates the two, making it easy to use.
For the shared type, you can set various viewing conditions such as 'when', 'where', 'how', 'for how long', 'personal key', 'group key', 'whether saving is allowed', etc. Only if those conditions are met, the image can be viewed.
Isn't there a risk of leaking through capture or copy?
By default, decryption only happens in memory and is not saved as a file. The anti-screenshot (capture) feature is applied by default.
On certain devices/settings or rooted/jailbroken devices, the screenshot prevention may not work perfectly.
This app may not function properly on rooted/jailbroken devices.
Is sign up and login required?
You can use it without sign up and login.
However, for the PicSeal app, if you change device, reinstall the app, or logout, your personal key will change.
Therefore, if you are a non-member, decryption of images encrypted for personal use is impossible.
In summary, PicSeal app is designed so that each installation has a unique personal key, and upon reinstallation or logout, it is completely reset.
Do I have to back up my personal key?
After signing up and logging in, your unique personal key is safely stored on the server and there is no need for separate backup.
If you use it without membership/login, your personal key required for decryption is not backed up separately, so if you delete or reinstall the app, recovery is impossible.
Can I recover a deleted MetaSeal (image)?
For default MetaSeal images provided, you can simply register it again in 'My MetaSeal'. However, for custom MetaSeal you created and registered yourself, recovery is impossible if lost. Thus, images encrypted with it cannot be decrypted. External backup is highly recommended.
Can I know who encrypted an image?
It is possible.
If there is a signature of the owner (person or organization who encrypted it), you may be able to identify them.
Other than that, there is nothing that reveals personal information externally.
The encrypted image contains a unique identifier of the user who encrypted it.
The unique identifier is not related to personal information, and even when decrypted, the individual cannot be identified.
PicSeal does not send any data to the server during encryption or decryption.
So, personal information is not leaked in that process.
When is it impossible to decrypt an encrypted image?
1. When you lose/delete your personal MetaSeal (MetaSeal, Spot image)
- If you lose (delete) your own MetaSeal, recovery is impossible.
- However, if you used a free MetaSeal for personal use, you can re-register and use it for decryption.
- Therefore, always keep your custom MetaSeal by using the external save button. (When saved, it is encrypted and can only be used by yourself.)
2. If you delete the app without logging in or after device reset/reinstallation
- If you delete/reset/logout PicSeal, all personal keys and MetaSeal are initialized.
- So, we strongly recommend using the unique personal key that is given after signing up (logging in).
- We do not provide decryption service for encrypted images.
3. If you forget the password/condition key set for shared type
- (e.g., personal key, group key, time, location conditions)
- If you do not meet the condition, decryption is impossible
4. If you damage/alter/resize/modify/convert the encrypted image (especially WEBP, PNG→JPG, etc.)
- MetaSeal and other elements may be destroyed and decryption impossible
- Always store the encrypted image as is
Is there a decryption service for encrypted images?
Sorry.
PicSeal uses an EXIF-Free, condition-based, independent key encryption structure.
The developer/operator cannot know the conditions needed for user decryption.
Also, there is no backdoor/master key for enhanced security.
Is it okay to use the same MetaSeal (stamp) image as someone else?
MetaSeal (digital seal) is a complex key for encrypting and decrypting images.
PicSeal uses multiple keys. Even if you use the same image, you are just sharing one of many keys.
In addition, each user's MetaSeal is encrypted differently. So, for images encrypted as personal type, other users cannot decrypt from the MetaSeal.
MetaSeal is the strongest encryption method used in PicSeal, designed exclusively for digital seals.
If you use a self-designed image, even AI cannot decrypt it.
For reference, we cannot decrypt it either. So, decryption service is not provided.
If I encrypt an image for sharing, do I have to give the MetaSeal image together?
No. Just send the encrypted image.
If you added a separate encryption key (e.g., personal key), tell the recipient as well.
And if you set view period, location, notify the recipient about the conditions as well.
Never share the MetaSeal image itself!
What should I keep in mind when reinstalling the app or changing device?
PicSeal uses a different lock key (personal key) for each device and user for security. 🔐
So if you change device, reinstall, or login/logout without logging in or using a unique personal key,
👉 You will not be able to unlock images locked previously.
If you have important photos or documents encrypted without logging in or using a unique personal key,
1️⃣ Unlock them first
2️⃣ Then, after signing up, re-encrypt them using the unique personal key given.
📌 If you sign up and login,
- You get a very complex unique personal key that you don't have to remember.
- Using that key, you can lock and unlock anytime, anywhere.
Isn't it difficult to use?
We have made it as simple and clear as possible.
For personal digital seals, if you don't register a self-designed seal, there's no need for special storage.
If you use a unique key assigned after sign up and login, there's no need to worry about personal key backup.
It is safely stored and managed on the server, so you can log in and use it from any device anytime.
Where are the encrypted images stored?
Under the Android Pictures folder, a PicSeal folder is automatically created and encrypted images are saved there.
Subfolders like encrypted, decrypted, shared_encrypted are automatically created as you use the app.
Are locked images stored on the server?
Locked images can be safely stored on the Picseal server.
Please use Picseal’s Vault function.
Personal files can be stored for one year and the period can be extended.
Shared locked images with others are saved in a Quick Share format.
After saving, click the Link button to automatically copy a downloadable address.
You can paste and send this via email or SNS.
The link is valid for 1 day and will be automatically deleted afterward.
What happens if I rejoin after withdrawing?
The private key is issued at the time of sign-up. Even if your identity is verified and you rejoin, the private key will change.
The same key can never be reissued.
Therefore, files encrypted previously cannot be decrypted. This is a fundamental principle of encryption system security.
How is the reliability of the encryption technology verified?
PicSeal is currently pending patent and provides advanced security through AI inference protection and EXIF-free design.
We are preparing technical validation via domestic and international invention fairs and PoC projects.
The PicSeal and MetaSeal technologies were not disclosed or trained, and decryption was impossible even with hacking and AI attempts.
We welcome any verification challenge.
